February 20 – Now that the event season in Area III is in full swing, our calendars are full – and, as always, volunteers are needed everywhere! I hope you will do your best to help out when you can, as our sport is so dependent on your commitment.
I want to remind our members of our upcoming schooling day at Barnstaple South on Sunday, March 8th. Schooling fees will be reduced to $35, and Derek has so generously offered to donate $5 back to FHTA for each participant. We will have a potluck lunch again, so mark your calendars, bring some food, and join us at 10:00 to ride and eat afterwards (about 12:30). Please sign up with me ahead of time (by Friday, March 6th) if you are planning on coming. Barnstaple offers Starter level through Preliminary, and are planning on running some 3-phase events this year as well.
We have now sanctioned a new show – Run for the Ribbons h/j show – in Morriston, Fl. They offer jumper and dressage classes, and usually have monthly shows there, culminating with a big year-end extravaganza at FHP in December for OTTB’s. (however, their monthly shows are open to all breeds!). For more information on their events, go to www.runfortheribbons.org .
Open schooling dates at Grand Oaks are temporarily on hold, due to footing problems after the combined driving event held there recently. The last schooling day only brought one horse out, and some of the course has been closed off to repair the footing. As soon as I get the word that it is open again, I will let you know.
Our annual awards luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th this year at the Best Western Gateway Grand in Gainesville again. Mark your calendars for it, and be sure to keep sending in your scores as you earn them. All scores through June 30 will be counted. (please don’t wait until the last minute!)
