We hope everyone has marked their calendars for our annual spring event camp at Majestic Oaks in Reddick on March 13th-15th, 2026.
Camp Entries are NOT accepted until Monday 2/23/26.
$175 covers all from Fri PM through Sun PM
Who Should Attend?
- Riders of all ages who are interested in learning about the sport of eventing or advancing their eventing skills
- Participants must be FHTA members. Dues are $20/year (plus $5/horse) and can be paid along with camp fees. However, priority is given to longer-term members. (so if you have a friend who is also interested, I’d suggest you have them join now).
- No eventing experience required! However, riders should be comfortable jumping small jumps, especially if bringing an inexperienced horse. This is NOT for riders who have NEVER jumped!
- Camp will focus on skills needed for each phase of eventing, with a focus on competitive skills, rules, etiquette, and horsemanship, as well as what to expect at your first event.
What Happens At Camp:
Mounted sessions – Groups of 4-5 rider/horse pairs of similar experience will participate in 3 mounted sessions, each one focusing on one phase of eventing led by experienced instructors. This year we welcome Ava Wehde (cross country) , Autumn Schweiss (show jumping), Pat Deasy (dressage), and Chris Cox & Janet Andrews (Green Beans) as our camp instructors.
INSTRUCTOR BIOs
Pat Deasy (dressage): Patricia Deasy is a former USEA Area III Leading Rider, an USEA ICP Certified Instructor, and a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist. Patricia is an accomplished FEI level rider in both eventing and dressage from her first title as USEA Area III Leading Rider in 1991 to her most recent title as the 2016 USDF Open Intermediate II Champion Vintage Cup. She takes a kind and supportive approach with an emphasis on correct flatwork and confident, safe cross country riding, helping her students excel in their various disciplines. Patricia’s students have succeeded throughout the years in both eventing and dressage, winning numerous Regional and National titles in both USEA and USDF competitions.
Autumn Shweiss (Show Jumping)– I’ve been riding for as long as I can remember and have competed in eventing through the FEI 4L level, earning my USDF Silver Medal along the way. I reached my first Prelim in 2009, first FEI in 2010, Intermediate in 2011, and made my Advanced and 4* debut in 2018. A big passion of mine is starting and producing young horses, including Bamford CF, whom I’ve brought along from 8 months old to the 4* level as his sole rider. I truly love teaching and enjoy helping riders build confidence, solid fundamentals, and strong partnerships with their horses while having fun and staying safe.
Ava Wehde (cross country): Ava is an advanced level evener and trainer with a specialty for producing young horses in the sport as well as restarting OTTBs. Teaching and helping others on their riding journey is her passion and she focuses on fun positive learning. Ava grew up eventing in New Hampshire and moved to Ocala Florida eight years ago. She has been riding with Jon Holling ever since moving to Florida. As well as upper level eventing and training, Ava also spent six years breaking and galloping horses on the racetrack. She is based year round in Ocala Florida.
Chris Cox (green beans) – A tiny bit of prior jumping experience, even just a pole! We are thrilled to welcome back Chris Cox as Green Beans instructor! Chris has evented through the 2* intermediate level, riding with many prominent trainers along the way. Since its inception, she has introduced FHTA Campers to eventing using a progression of safe, fun and interesting exercises. She reminds attendees to read the rulebook, as this is so important to a successful eventing outing! Chris has a knack for successfully and safely starting horses and riders off on their eventing journey.
Janet Andrews (green beans): With over 40 years of experience teaching dressage and jumping to riders in our area, she is sure to help riders improve stadium jumping skills. She has won numerous eventing awards in Area III, while also riding on the national level. She brought up the 1993 Eventing Mare of the Year, Gaisha, who was also 1994 AHSA Zone 4 Intermediate Champion, and 1995 American Hanoverian Horse of the Year. Janet will share her insights for successfully navigating stadium courses.
Camp fees are only $175 – this includes stabling, all human food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and instruction. Camping hookup sites are available for a low fee. Nearby accommodations are also available. (contact Carol Ogden – cogden@atlantic.net – for more information).
