_MFB9958.2The Florida Horse Trials Assn. held it’s annual year-end awards luncheon at the Ocala Hilton on August 16th. Over 100 members and friends came from all over the state to attend the annual meeting and receive their awards earned during the year. Thanks to our annual sponsors — Rocking Horse Stables, Equiventures, Horse Shows in the Park, Partners of the Park, Cavalor, County Saddlery, and Fleet Footing, Inc. — for their generous donations so that nice prizes can be awarded annually to our members who earn enough qualifying scores for Title Awards.

_MFB0096Richard Trayford, from Equiventures, spoke about future plans for the Ocala Jockey Club, which will host a 3-star competition in November 2016, and eventually a 4-star event (the highest rating in eventing). He also entertained us with stories of foxhunting in England.

Hilda Hick Donahue was our guest speaker, and shared pictures and stories of her experiences riding in this year’s Tevis Cup endurance ride in California, as well as eventing internationally on several different horses throughout her career.

The Susan Neubauer Memorial Award (for an active competitor) was awarded to Lindsay Barrack of Mahan Farm in Tallahassee for her work in promoting FHTA and bringing more juniors into the organization.

The Alicia Wishard Memorial Award (for a non-competing individual) was awarded to Cyndy Shires from Gold Leaf Farm in Alachua for her efforts in introducing eventing to Florida in the 1970’s. Her assistant in running the horse trials, Louise Stokes, was also recognized for her help.

In addition to door prizes and an event-free raffle, our silent auction (with 100+ items to bid on) brought in over $4000 which will help pay for our annual event camp, insurance, operating fees, and year-end prizes.  This year we also had a great vendor fair with representatives from Cavalor, Fleet Footing, County Saddlery, KeriCure, OBS, Pony Paddock and Tobias Saddle Fitting.
